Those who were under stress produced more cytokines and were more likely to get sick. Additionally, stressed people are less likely to concentrate on their diet and eating habits or get enough sleep, affecting their immunity.

Although avoiding stress is difficult, you can develop strategies to help you handle it much better. In a 2012 study published in Annals of Internal Medicine, adults who were 50 years and older and did their daily exercises were less likely to get sick with respiratory disease than those who didn't.
