CBD Oil UK: Terms You Should Know

Reading time – 5 minutes

The world of CBD wellness comes along with a lot of new terms that are important to know. They’ll help you understand exactly what kind of CBD you’re taking, how fast it will work and how it’s working in your body. We’ve covered some of the most important terms you need to know when it comes to CBD.

Bioavailability

Bioavailability is basically how fast the body absorbs the CBD into the bloodstream. Depending on the way you choose to take your CBD, the better the bioavailability, and the faster CBD will get it in your bloodstream and start working with your endocannabinoid system. The longer it takes to get into your bloodstream, the longer the effects will last.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

CBD stands for cannabidiol and is found alongside other cannabinoids in the Cannabis Sativa plant. It works with your endocannabinoid system to maintain balance in your body and keep a state of wellness.

Certificate of Analysis

A certificate of analysis (COA) is one of the best ways to tell if a CBD brand can be trusted and that they're being transparent. It is a certificate that shows that a third party has tested the product and deemed it safe. You can find Amphora's certificates of analysis here.

Distillate

This is when you get the benefits of the whole plant in your CBD product, including cannabinoids, terpenes, vitamins and fatty acids. This is what Amphora uses in all of our CBD vape oil products with zero THC because of the benefits it provides.

Edible

This is when CBD is added to a food or something you can digest. The bioavailability is much like a capsule because it’s also ingested and goes through the stomach and liver. That means that it will also take a bit longer to feel the effects, although the impact will last longer.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a naturally occurring system in our bodies made up of endocannabinoids, receptors and enzymes. It’s responsible for regulating things like mood, stress, sleep and a whole lot of other things that have an impact on your wellness. The ECS will respond to cannabinoids from outside of the body as well, including CBD, which helps to maintain balance in your body.

Entourage Effect

The entourage effect is when different cannabis compounds from the plant work together to boost the benefits of CBD. A study by Dr Russo in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that terpenes and cannabinoids working together offer really great benefits. That’s why full-spectrum, broad-spectrum or CBD distillate product is such a great option.

When people use CBD oil, we take in various botanical elements, each with benefits and effects. They interact with one another and may change depending on how they interact. It maximizes the benefits of CBD.

Broad Spectrum

Broad-spectrum is a type of CBD oil that has lots of elements of the whole cannabis plant except it has no THC. During the extraction process, THC is completely removed. It still produces the entourage effect, but just without the THC.

Many CBD users choose full-spectrum because of the entourage effect it provides without the THC, and this is why we use it in all of Amphora's products.

Isolate

CBD isolate considered the purest form of CBD because it has all other ingredients from the plant removed, leaving just the CBD. It usually comes in the form of a powder.

Some of the more well-known ones are limonene which is a major component of fruit peels like oranges and limes or Caryophyllene also found in rosemary, that helps reduce inflammation.
