CBD Facts: Things You Probably Didn't Know About CBD

Reading time – 6 minutes

CBD is everywhere these days. There’s lots of info out there, and some of it’s starting to become more common knowledge. CBD has benefits. It comes from cannabis. It’s legal in the UK!

We're here to give you some of the facts you probably didn't know about CBD that will help you become even more of an expert. These facts aren't just knowledge you can bust out at a dinner party. They will help you get to really know the famous cannabinoid that everyone’s talking about.

CBD Is One of Hundreds of Cannabinoids

CBD and THC really steal the spotlight when it comes to cannabinoids. But don’t forget about the other guys.

The plants they come from have hundreds of cannabinoids. CBD and THC get the most attention because they have the highest concentration in Cannabis Sativa plants. There’s also cannabichromene (CBC), cannabinol (CBN), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and cannabigerol (CBG) to name a few. These all have their own benefits and can interact with CBD to create an even better effect when you take full or broad-spectrum CBD oil.

CBD Does Not Get You High

If you didn't know this – don't worry, you're not alone! Because CBD comes from the cannabis family, people tend to think it will give you some 'psychedelic' effects. Psychoactive effects can are actually found in CBD's close cousin THC. It’s the cannabinoid that offers the psychoactive effects and is usually associated with that 'fuzzy-headed' feeling people assume all cannabis products make you feel. THC is also connected with effects like paranoia, anxiety and memory issues.

What's great about CBD is that it has been found to counteract those effects. So even if there are trace amounts of THC in your CBD product, you will not get any of those adverse side effects.

Some CBD oils like full-spectrum and CBD distillate have trace amounts of THC that help deliver the entourage effect. But it would never be enough to get you ‘high.’

CBD Works Better with Others

If CBD were getting a report card, ‘works well with others’ would be at the top of the list. When you take CBD with the other compounds found in the plant, you get something called the entourage effect. The entourage effect enhances the benefits of CBD. Basically, it means that when everything in the plant is working together, it's going to do way better than on its own.

Cannabis plants have hundreds of compounds including fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, flavonoids, terpenes and of course cannabinoids.

In full-spectrum CBD oil, you get all of these compounds that maximize the benefits CBD provides you with. With broad-spectrum CBD oil you get the same benefits as CBD, minus the THC. The benefits of this are why Amphora uses broad-spectrum in our products. It's organic, safe and offers lots of wellness properties as opposed to a CBD isolate, which is just pure CBD with all of the other elements removed.

CBD May Help with Addiction

The benefits of CBD are talked about a lot. Usually, you hear about how it helps with pain or anxiety. But one area that’s growing in research and results in addiction.

A study found that CBD may be effective in helping people with heroin addictions because it helps manage ‘the anxiety and cue/craving cycle.’ It may also help with a lot of the withdrawal symptoms like nausea, pain and anxiety. These findings would be huge for helping with opioid addictions.

It’s not just drug addiction that CBD has been shown to help with but also cigarettes. Studies have found that it reduces how many cigarettes  people had and another that showed it would reduce cues that would make them crave it.

CBD Is One of The Fastest Growing Industries

To say CBD marketing is flourishing is a significant understatement. It's not just in the UK. It's around the world.

This growth is for a lot of reasons. First of all, more research is showing that it’s safe. The World Health Organization published reports  indicating that it's safe. That’s a big deal. Second, laws around the world are starting to allow for the sale of CBD. The main reason – demand is high.

Market research predicts that the CBD industry will grow at a rate of 31.90% for the forecast period of 2020 to 2027. A report said that global legal cannabis spending to grow from $15.3 billion in 2019 to $29.5 billion in 2022. That’s big. So you don’t expect to see the CBD industry slowing down anytime soon.

CBD Is Good for You Even If You Don’t Have Health Issues

If you've just started to get interested in using CBD, it's most likely because you've heard about the benefits. Either from a friend, in the news or maybe from a wellness blog. It's true. CBD is used for lots of health issues. Amphora has products  designed to target different wellness needs with formulations that provide relaxation, focus and calm.

But instead of just thinking of it as treating something, you can think of it as preventative, and something that you can incorporate into your overall wellness routine.

CBD assists your naturally occurring endocannabinoid system (ECS), which helps your body keep everything in balance to keep you healthy. CBD keeps your ECS running smoothly, keeping you healthier overall.

CBD Can Come from Hemp and Marijuana

To understand the Cannabis Sativa family, you almost need a biology degree. There are so many elements in each plant, and the different cannabinoids found in them. What’s important to know is that CBD can come from both the hemp and marijuana plant – they’re both part of the Cannabis Sativa family.

CBD comes from the flowers, stems, leaves and stalks of both plants. Marijuana is lower in CBD than THC. Hemp has higher CBD and less THC. That’s why CBD producers typically choose hemp plants to extract from.

Lots of People Already Use CBD

CBD may be new to you, but it's already popular in the UK. And it isn't just for millennials.

A survey done in 2019 found that around 11% of UK adults (approximately 6 million people) had tried CBD. And people of all ages, social classes and genders were trying it. This is bigger than the total Vitamin D and C users combined.

Google trends data found that it isn’t just a big city thing. The top three locations for CBD use in the UK are Brighten, Liverpool and Plymouth.

There are still new things researchers are discovering about CBD all the time. The chances are that in a couple of months we could make another list of things you probably didn't know. We hope these facts give you a little more insight into the benefits of including CBD in your everyday wellness routine.
