Reading time – 10 minutes

If you’re searching for high strength CBD oil to supplement your health and wellness routine, you’re in luck! CBD oil drops that are high strength and high quality are now available in the United Kingdom.

Whether you’ve heard of CBD, you’re browsing various resources to find out more about CBD, or you’ve used CBD oil drops for years, you’re in the right place. At Amphora, we want to educate CBD users, assisting them in their search for high quality CBD products in a saturated market. Let’s talk about CBD oil drops and how they can help you progress on your journey to improved wellness.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant, which also contains more than 100 additional compounds. CBD is often mistaken for another compound: Tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC. Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t have an intoxicating effect.

How is CBD Derived from the Cannabis Sativa Plant?

Before adding CBD to products such as CBD oil drops, it's necessary to extract it from hemp, a type of cannabis plant containing more CBD than THC. There are a variety of CBD extraction methods used in the production of CBD. Various CBD extraction methods offer high yield, high purity, and high efficiency.

CO2 Extraction

During CO2 extraction, carbon dioxide is pressurized until it reaches liquid form. When combined with the hemp plant, the liquid CO2 dissolves CBD solids, extracting them from the plant matter. After extraction, the solution is returned to normal atmospheric pressure, converting the CO2 back into an inert gas and leaving CBD solids behind. The solids are further filtered and purified, but CO2 extraction generally produces a high yield.

Ethanol Extraction

Ethanol extraction is one of the oldest CBD extraction methods. High-proof alcohol (commonly ethanol) soaks the hemp plant, and polar compounds (CBD and chlorophyll) dissolve into the alcohol solution.

Ethanol evaporates quickly at room temperature, leaving dissolved polar solids behind. Since ethanol dissolves any polar compounds in the hemp plant, chlorophyll is usually extracted during the process, potentially impacting the product's taste. It's possible to remove the chlorophyll with further refinement, but that can reduce the CBD yield.

However, since this process results in the extraction of all cannabinoid solids (not just CBD), it’s a great method for producing full-spectrum hemp extracts (more on that later).

Hydrocarbon Extraction

Hydrocarbon extraction is also known as the Rick Simpson Method since he was the first person documented using the method. The hemp plant is steeped in a hydrocarbon solution (the most recognizable is isopropyl alcohol) during this extraction process, allowing the cannabinoid compounds to dissolve into the liquid. Since hydrocarbons have a low boiling point, this process includes boiling the liquid form to evaporate the non-cannabinoid contents, leaving CBD oil behind.

Unfortunately, this method can potentially contaminate the yield with harmful byproducts, causing its rare use in commercial CBD extraction.

Steam Extraction

Steam extraction uses steam produced by boiling water to extract cannabinoid oils from the hemp plant. Water is boiled, and the resulting steam is directed to a flask containing the hemp plant. The steam dissolves the CBD oils into a gas form. The CBD and water vapor are run through a condenser tube, reducing the pressure and returning each compound to its liquid state. This solution is then distilled to isolate the CBD oil from the liquid water.

While a tried and true method for extracting other types of plant oils (such as essential oils), the process is inefficient for CBD production because of its generally low yield.

What Does CBD Do?

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a naturally occurring function of the human body that regulates stress, sleep, mood, and a variety of other functions of the central nervous system. While the ECS works fine whether you introduce external cannabinoids to your body or not, it does respond to the ingestion of cannabis products.

CBD is one of many cannabinoids that impact the ECS, thus affecting a variety of your body’s processes. Some of those effects can be very positive, so some consumers choose to ingest CBD to experience improvements to their health and wellness.

What Are CBD Oil Drops?

One of the products you can use to introduce CBD into the body is CBD oil drops or tinctures. In a tincture of CBD oil, a base oil (MCT oil in the case of Amphora’s Premium High Strength CBD Oil products) combined with pure CBD oil (Amphora uses 99% pure CBD oil in its premium CBD oil drops). Amphora’s CBD oil drops also include plant-based terpenes, which can improve the cannabinoid effects of CBD.

CBD oil drops are an excellent choice for those new to CBD since they’re easy to consume and have a long shelf life if stored correctly. They also don’t require the use of a vape pen, so they can be discreetly administered.

Types of CBD Oil

There are a variety of CBD oils on the market, and your body might respond better to one kind over another. Let’s talk about the different types of CBD oil currently available.

Full-Spectrum CBD Oil

Full-spectrum CBD oil contains various compounds that result during the CBD extraction process, including other cannabinoids and terpenes, among others. The variety of compounds included in full-spectrum CBD oil have the potential to work together to have a positive impact on the body via the Entourage Effect.

The Entourage Effect describes the positive impacts of taking terpenes and cannabinoids simultaneously. A 2011 study determined that  terpenes and cannabinoids can impact the body positively, heightening their benefits when combined in a single product.

Thus, full-spectrum CBD oil can encourage the Entourage Effect. Other Types of CBD oils (broad-spectrum and CBD distillate) also offer the potential benefits of this phenomenon.

Broad-Spectrum CBD Oil

Another type of CBD oil that offers the sweet benefits of the Entourage Effect is broad-spectrum CBD. This type of oil contains CBD and terpenes, like full-spectrum CBD oil, but with all THC removed from the product. If your body doesn’t respond well to THC, or if you’d like to steer clear of intoxicating ingredients, this is the CBD oil for you!

Broad-spectrum CBD oil is one of the two types of oils used by Amphora in its CBD oil products.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is pretty self-explanatory. During the extraction process, every other compound (terpenes and other cannabinoids) is removed from the product, leaving behind pure CBD. While pure CBD possibly provides health benefits, users of solely CBD isolate won’t experience the potentially advantageous effects of the Entourage Effect since isolate doesn’t contain any terpenes, but will avoid any potential for intoxicating effects.

CBD Distillate

Despite having a similar name to CBD isolate, CBD distillate is quite different. This product, also used in Amphora’s CBD oil products, contains CBD, terpenes, fatty acids, and vitamins. Since almost all THC is removed during the extraction process, CBD distillate is almost like full-spectrum CBD oil, but without the THC. As you probably guessed, CBD distillate also allows users to harness the potential benefits of the Entourage Effect.

What Are the Benefits of CBD Oil?

CBD oil can offer a variety of health and wellness benefits. While we know how CBD interacts with the body's biochemical processes, significant research is still underway regarding the positive impacts the cannabinoid could have on specific aspects of personal health.

Improvement of Sleep

Improved sleep is one of the most widely reported benefits of using CBD oil. It’s hypothesized that CBD increases the production of adenosine, a neurochemical that when absorbed by the body makes us feel tired. Another hypothesis under consideration is that CBD can help regulate cortisol, also known as the body’s stress hormone.

Pain Relief and Exercise Recovery Improvements

Integration of CBD into your exercise regimen could improve your ability to recover on off days. While CBD, in general, might reduce chronic pain and offer a more holistic pain management method to those struggling with a chronic illness, those benefits could also improve the recovery of athletes in training.

A 2020 study purports that existing evidence of anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of CBD could be beneficial for athletes before, during, and after training, but more research is necessary. Consider adding CBD to your pre- or post-workout routine to potentially experience recovery benefits and decreased pain.

Calming Effects

CBD might have an overall effect on the body’s level of calm. A small scientific study collecting anecdotal evidence suggests CBD could reduce anxiety in users. While there is undoubtedly more work to be done in the study of CBD, early scientific evidence suggests overall benefits to your sense of calm.

How to Take CBD Oil Drops

There are a variety of methods used to ingest CBD oil drops. Try out a few of the methods listed below to determine which one works best for you and your lifestyle.

CBD Edibles

If you fancy yourself a baker, you can add CBD oil drops to baked goods for a tasty treat. Keep in mind that some CBD oils have flavors (so be mindful of flavor combinations) and that bioavailability of CBD is reduced as a result of the compound passing through your digestive system.

Under the Tongue

The use of sublingual tincture, or dissolving drops of CBD oil under the tongue, is an excellent method for CBD oil drop consumption. It’s incredibly simple, and the potential effects of CBD will kick in quickly (much more rapidly than ingesting CBD edibles). While a user places sublingual tinctures in their mouth, the CBD doesn’t have to pass through the digestive system, increasing the bioavailability of the CBD compounds. Glands under the tongue absorb the oil in approximately 30 seconds.

Application to Skin

Topical administration of CBD can potentially reduce aches and pains, particularly in athletes. Many cosmetics and wellness companies started adding CBD to their skin products to reap the possible benefits of topical CBD oil. These products usually offer benefits in addition to CBD, including moisturizing and acne control.

Vaping

While vaping offers the fastest results of effects of CBD and the greatest bioavailability of the CBD compound, vaping isn’t for everyone. But, if you’re new to vaping, never fear: Amphora offers a variety of CBD vape oils that provide unique potential effects. Try each one out to decide which is right for you!

How Much CBD Oil Should I Take?

CBD affects everyone differently, and the only way to find out how much CBD you need in a single dose is to experiment. If it’s your first time using CBD oil, it's integral that you start with a low dose at a low frequency. It’s helpful to journal your CBD experiences to help track the effects and pinpoint your perfect dose.

Introducing Amphora Premium High Strength Oil Drops

What better way to find your perfect dose than by trying Amphora’s Premium High Strength Oil Drops! Amphora developed each of the four varieties to potentially offer unique effects.

ZZZ could be precisely what you need if you’ve been struggling with sleep. If you’ve missed a sense of calm or tranquility as of late, PEACE has the potential to decrease your overall stress level. Is CBD Oil Legal?

Yes. CBD is legal in the UK as long as the THC content is below 0.2%. It’s also perfectly safe and non-addictive to consume.
